About Pine River Institute

Pine River Institute is a residential treatment centre and outdoor leadership experience for youth 13 to 19 struggling with mental health issues, and specifically substance abuse. Their family lives are in uproar. Their personal and academic lives are in jeopardy. These are kids who have exhausted other interventions, and need a new, creative approach.

That new approach is available in a peaceful area outside of Toronto, where family-centered wilderness, therapeutic, and academic programs come together in a unique, holistic treatment and educational model. At Pine River, we address the self-destructive behaviour. We teach math skills and life skills side-by-side. We take all the time it takes to rebuild a life. And we remain supportive of our families long after the program ends.

A place where kids and families can start to feel whole again.

An Introduction to Somatic Experiencing (SE) Workshop

Tuesday January 4, 2011 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at our School Campus.

Registration now open.  Space is Limited.  $35 for the 3 hour workshop, lunch, HST included.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-oriented approach to the resolution of traumatic stress, based on the belief that our nervous systems inherently know how to return to balance if given the right support. This work was developed by Dr. Peter Levine, author of the best selling book, “Waking The Tiger.” The workshop will provide an introduction to the concepts from neurobiology on which SE is based, to the skills necessary to facilitate this natural process, and a description of the SE professional training.

About Catherine Fallis, PhD., R.C.C., SEP
Catherine has been a body-oriented and expressive arts therapist for over 20 years in Vancouver, both in private practice and in the public school system. She completed doctoral studies in Somatic Psychology and Expressive Arts Therapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies, in San Francisco.
